Origami finally official
It's finally official - the much-rumoured Origami handheld PC running Windows Tablet PC edition has been revealed. Despite much of the hype, this device really has very little to do with Microsoft other than running Windows - the initial models are by Samsung and Asus. These models are also quite ugly, although Intel have posted a couple of images of more attractive unidentified versions.
The initial machines appear to be nothing too unusual, the one slightly original detail is the virtual thumb-board layout as shown in the image to the right. The specifications are otherwise fairly uninspiring - 7" 800 x 480 touchscreen, approximately 2 lbs weight, WiFi and Bluetooth. Microsoft are suspiciously silent on other details such as processor speeds, battery life, memory/hard drive capacity, and price, but we expect that there will be a wide range of these devices from a boatload of different manufacturers.
Update: apparently the Samsung model has a 40GB hard drive, and there are plug-in GPS and DMB-TV accessories planned. Update 2: The device does NOT have an 'instant-on' feature. You have to boot it just like a normal PC.
